Bison, the Eye.

Bison, headshot

Bison, commonly called 'buffalo' were once the predominant mammal of the Great Plains of North America. From a population possibly numbering 100 million animals, they were decimated through extensive hunting, until the late 1800's when only 800 animals remained in the US. This tragedy is one of the single worst examples of the systematic ecocides generated over the last few hundred years. Hopefully, with extended conservation measures and a deeper respect for the creatures we share the planet with, we can allow species to replenish themselves and once again witness the sheer incredulousness nature holds. Bull Bison, Custer State Park, South Dakota.
