Baby Great Egrets
How about those legs! As cute as these chicks appear, the competition for survival is very fierce among them. The youngest, and smaller baby bird here, was eventually pushed out of the nest by the older siblings. When the parents return with food for the chicks, the eagerness of the babies to take the food from them is extraordinary to witness. These Great Egrets are common in much of North America, but particularly in Florida, where many of them spend the winter months, which is when they nest and breed.
