Female Mallard

female mallard, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska.

I found a nice beaver pond along the Resurrection Pass Trail in the Chugach National Forest, in Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, and, with some patience, was lucky enough to see a family of ducks there. This female was ever the steward over her young brood, and didn't let me approach to closely. (Anas platyrhynchos)
