Bald eagle photos are always a treat. The
bald eagles of Homer are fascinating to observe and particularly
exciting to photograph. 2003 was an interesting year, as always,
but difficult conditions helped make these photos different from years past. The
warming temperatures we're experiencing were felt more so in Alaska
than elsewhere, and this affected the behaviour of much of the
wildlife during the 2002/2003 winter, bald eagles included. These
photos were made early in March, and I was fortunate to have sunny
skies for the most part, but fewer bald eagles than usual and strong
winds made productive photography challenging. I worked at capturing
photos that I felt were original, concentrating on evocative and
artful images. I tried hard to catch many bald eagle photos in flight, flying and soaring as only eagles do. Almost
all of these bald eagles photos below were taken March 2003.
While
most photographers concentrate on the adult eagles, I find the
juvenile and immature bald eagle to be an equal subject, their
plumage and many colors help to create some captivating photographs.
Hopefully next year I'll return once again to the Homer spit and
capture some of the photographs I have in my head that have so
far eluded my camera. Wish me luck!
